After our encounter with the Blue Lake Monster, Owen and Tom went for a run through the Water Play ground. They had a great time, but I swear when ever Tom gets around things like that, the little 8 year-old boy in him comes out. Seriously, I felt like I was watching my 2 LITTLE boys running through the water. What am I going to do when I really do have 2 little boys?!?!?!

Attack of the Blue Lake Monster
Yesturday, Tom spent the day at Blue Lake Park treating people at some sort of Health Fair. After he was finished, Owen and I met him at the park to have a picnic dinner. The dinner was nothing fancy just Burger King, but there was a squirrel who could not get enough of it. She kept on sneaking up and trying to grab fries out of our bag. At one point she actually climbed up on Tom, to try and grab the french fry out of his hand.

Big Gulp Anyone?
We all know how much Tom loves to experiment with all these crazy diets and cleanses. So far he has done the following: the lemonade diet, the ape diet, the all meat diet, the P90X diet, the carb-hour diet, and the cabbage diet. He has seen decent results with most of them, but I am worried this the Big Gulp Diet is not working for him.

***Ha, ha, ha. Just kidding. This is not Tom, and he really hasn't done ALL of those diets, just most of them.***

Being FAT is funny!
My sister and her family were here last week. It was a blast to have them visit. I love hanging out with her and her hubby. It seem like when Charis and Craig, and Tom and I all get together, there is always something to laugh about. Last week was no different, only it seemed like the funniest things revolved around the few extra pounds that most of us accumulate as we get older.

The first funny story took place at the play
ground at Washington Park. It is a really cool play ground, with all sorts of slides and bridges, and it is wheel chair accessible. Anyway, one of the slides is an incredibly tight spiral slide. It is so tight, that I think anyone much older then ten would get stuck on it. My 20-month-old niece really wanted to go down this slide, but she was too scared to go down alone, so my sister decided to go down with her, and about halfway down she gets stuck. Once she got off the slide, some snotty kid commented on how long he had to wait to go down the slide. Without missing a beat Chairs turns to him and simply says, "I am sorry, but that that is what happens when FAT people go down slides." The kid was shocked, and I swear Craig and I wear about to wet our pants, we were laughing so hard.
Now you have got to understand, my sister is a far cry from being fat, in fact she has been loosing weight. But holy cow, what she said was so stinking funny.
The next funny story happened later that night while we
were out to dinner. We went to this fun little burger join in Sandy Oregon, called Calamity Jane's. The burgers are really good, and the patties range in size from 1/3 lbs to 1 lbs. Well, the waitress took each order, with out specifying what size patty, then she gets to Tom and she offers either 1/2 lbs, or 2/3 lbs, or 3/4 lbs (notice she did not offer the smallest size). As the waitress was walking away, Tom says to us, "Should I be offended.... Hey FATTY, want bigger PATTY?" Holy cow, I don't think any of us could stop laughing the entire dinner.
So now you know my funny fat stories. It was great having my sister here. I loved seeing her and cute kids, and Craig too. Owen loved having his cousins around. And we got to go see some more the the Great Northwest, that we probably would not have seen otherwise. SO thanks for coming guys!!!

Already a Prankster

I try to work out 6 days a week. Three days a week I do something at home like palates, or Turbo Jam; the other Three days I go out running. There is a nature/jogging trail that is just up the street from us, so that is where I usually go. The trail has been super muddy lately, so when I get home, I kick off my shoes, and leave them by them front door.
The other I was getting Owen and myself ready for our run, I had him in the jogger, and I went to pull on my shoes. When I slipped my foot in the shoe, something did not feel quite right. I pulled off my shoe, and a handful of RAISINS fell out of my shoe. Baffled, I look over at Owen, and he was looking very proud, with the biggest smirk on his face, almost as if to say, "HA HA, I got you Mom!!!" And then I remembered that he had had raisins for a snack the day before. I guess he did not eat them all, like I had thought. I am going to have to start watching this boy more carefully.

Funny Hair Cut Up-Date
It has now been one week since I cut Owen's hair, and Tom has yet to notice. However, I have some funny stories involving Owen's hair cut and Thomas.
Friday afternoon (the day after the hair cut), shortly after Tom's last final finished, he called to let me know he was gonig over to have Melica (his hair cutting friend) give him a trim. He wanted me to bring over the Boy, so that he too could get a cut. Here is our conversation:
Me: "I don't think that he needs his hair cut right now."
Tom: "You sure? Isn't it getting pretty long?"
Me: "No, I think that is ok?"
Tom: "Ok, but we are going to Utah for a week, and it will be really long by the end."
Me: "It is ok, really he will be fine.... Have you ready my blog lately?"
Tom: "No, what does you blog have to do with the Boy's hair needing to be cut anyway?"
Even after that, he did not bother taking the time to read my blog.
A couple of days later, we at his parent's house in Utah, and his sister is cuting her son's hair. Tom looks at them, and says, "Hmmm, Rosie, isn't it about time we do that?" His mom then pipes up, "Tom haveyou read your wife's blog lately?"
Still, he did not read it.
Yesturday, Owen was crawling around my parents house, and Tom was playing with him. Tom stops what he is doing looks up and says, "Man, I never noticed before, but Melica did a HORRIBLE job on Owen's hair the last time she cut it. Look how crooked it is in the back."
My sister-in-law and I could not stop laughing. I swear I almost slit my side open. And yet, Tom could not figure out what was so funny about his poor son having such an uneven hair cut.

13 Months, 14 Hair Cuts
You know that old saying that kids grow like
weeds. Well it is true, but Owen's case, his hair grows like a weed on steroids.
He was born with 2 inches of the blackest hair I had ever seen. At 6 weeks old, he had his first hair cut. Tomorrow Owen will be 13 months old, and I just gave him his 14th hair cut. Tom does not know that I did this.
Tom is very picky about the way his hair is cut. I once attempted to cut his hair, and I did not do it right, so he had to get his friend from school (for was a hair dresser before a chiropractic student) to fix it. Ever since then he has not let me touch his hair, nor Owen's. I am not so sure why he does not want me to cut Owen's, he just claims it is easier to have Milika cut both of theirs at the same time.
So tonight, as I as giving Owen
his bath, I notices how long his hair was looking.
It was so long that it was almost covering his eyes, and growing over the tops of his ears. I swear he had more hair than most 3 year old girls do. So I thought it would be a good idea to give him a little trim while he was in the bath.
Cutting a squirmy little kid's
hair is not so easy. Have you ever made a scrapbook page, and just kept doing things to it, you never knew quite when to stop, and when it was all done you stepped back and looked at it as though "O man, I should have stopped when I was ahead?" Well, that is exactly how it was cutting his hair. I just kept cutting, and cutting, and cutting. When I finally finished, I looked at him and thought, "Oh no, Tom is not going to be happy." Look at this picture, you can see how crooked it is in the back (although, I must say the front looks good).
But after I got him dried off, and dressed, I got to get a good look at it, I don't think it looks so bad. In fact, I wonder if Tom will even notice that I cut it.

Doughnut Math
I had an urge today, a doughnut urge. Tom and I were talking to our friend Jenn, when all of the sudden a doughnut sounded
really, really good. It was unaminous, what better way to celebrate President's Day then to gorge ourselves one an All American Doughnut? And what better place to get a doughnut then Portland's famous Doughnut shop Voodoo Doughnuts? So we all pile in the car, and embark on the day adventure to the doughnut shop.

There are 2 Voodoo Doughnut shops. We went to one, only to find out that they only take cash...who carries cash? So we decided to try and find the other location, which is in the Heart of Portland. The roads in Portland City Center are crazy, so needless to say we drove around for a while with out finding our destination.
So we headed home, a bit crestfallen, and then we remembered that there was a Doughnut Shop just a few blocks from our house: Winchelle's DO NUT (why people spell doughnut like that is beyond me). We each wanted A doughnut; three adult = three doughnuts, simple math right? You would think, but we found out that a "Doughnut dozen," which is 14, was only $5.50. Tom's doughnut math kicked in, and he realized we could get 3 doughnuts for $.88 each (thats $2.70), OR we could get 14 for $5.50. Lets be honest folks, we are American, of coarse we ended up with 14 doughnuts. Did we need 14 doughnuts? No. Did we want 14 doughnuts? No. But the fact of the matter remains, we got 14 doughnuts, and we will eat, and enjoy those 14 doughnuts. Why because we are American, and thats what Americans do, we buy things that seem to be a better deal wether we need them or not. But, Mmmmm boy, this time it was good. I like doughnut math.

We Tried a new Brand of Diapers
I would not suggest using White Cloud Diapers.
We discovered why they are so much cheeper than the rest.
